About Sandra Fox
I taught art to hearing impaired students in the NYC School for the Deaf for 22 years. I have experimented with different art techniques but it wasn't until I studied Painting on Silk at the School of Visual Arts that I found my preferred media. I love watching the dyes and paints interact with the soft silk and explode with vibrant colors and shapes. The hand painted silk, which is shaped and glued to canvas, presents an opportunity to create a textured surface and more design options. In my silk and wood abstracts, the softness of the silk contrasts with the hardness of the wood. The wood shapes are made to complement the silk in color and design.
